Free-Rent & Technology Grant Opportunity for Local Businesses
Cohoes, NY. August 10, 2020 – Capital Companies NY and partnering businesses are offering local businesses a grant opportunity that offers free rent for one year and the development of a professionally designed website. The estimated value of this grant is $35,000-40,000.

As the local community struggles with the health and economic impact from the Coronavirus pandemic, a few local businesses got together to offer a grant opportunity for a small business to make roots in the Cohoes downtown business district on Remsen St.

The grant includes free rent for one year and a professionally constructed, optimized, and ADA compliant website. “I thought of this incentive because I want to attract the best possible business to Cohoes. I hate taking half measures, which result in mediocre outcomes. When you put your full effort into something it always shows”, said Daniel Oh, Managing Partner of Capital Companies NY.

Mr. Oh continues, “Starting a new venture can be daunting. The right business will be great for our downtown neighborhood and the City of Cohoes as a whole “.

The contributors to the grant include Capital Companies NY, GLD Cornerstone Group, Go Gonzalez Web Design and Advertising, and Redmark Realty. The award of this grant offsets the expensive costs of build-out and saves the awardee time, which is critical in establishing a new business venture.

“This grant aligns with our company’s philosophy of giving,” said Manny Santos, VP of Operations at Go Gonzalez, “Supporting the revitalization in the Cohoes Business District increases foot-traffic, property value, and sales tax revenue”.

The space awarded in this grant is in the beautifully built Masonic Temple building located at 130 Remsen St., the former location of the Olde Mercantile. The space is approximately one half of the first-floor retail space measuring approximately 2200 square feet.

Once your contact information is received, a pre-qualification form is sent via email. The finalist will be selected in early September and invited to present their business venture. The target date to award this grant is September 20, 2020.

In addition to this grant is the opportunity for a sign grant and a small business loan through the Cohoes Local Development Corporation.  “Innovative programs like this; one entrepreneur opening the door for another, are helping Cohoes to buck the national trend of small businesses closing in this economic downturn,” said Mayor Bill Keeler. “Programs like Takeout Week and Eat in the Street have clearly shown prospective business owners that Cohoes is a city that rallies together, and I look forward to welcoming new businesses to our downtown community and supporting their continued growth.”
